No one knows the name of the Mayor of Ilizmagorti, who rules the only settlement on Mediogalti Island. The Mayor lives on Mayor's Island and can be visited there by those seeking an audience. The Mayor is a shapeshifter who reputedly never takes on the same shape twice, and whose ability to wander the city in disguise grants him or her a great deal of knowledge about what goes on.
The Mayor is in fact a Vernai, one of the ruling cabal of the Red Mantis, the identities of whom are all as secret as is the Mayor's.[1]
