The pata (pronounced PAH-ta) is a short, double-edged bladed weapon which evolved from the katar. Like the katar, it has a gauntleted grip, but instead of the triangular blade, the pata has the blade of a short sword. Wielders use a punching motion to pierce their opponents. This allows a great amount of force to be behind the blow, and greater penetration than a normal short sword. The grip makes this weapon more difficult to disarm than most normal gripped weapons.
